Capgemini to boost Indian headcount by 6,000

Capgemini is planning to more than double its Indian staff headcount by taking on another 6,000 people by the end of 2007.

Launching a new 500-seat business process outsourcing and offshore software development centre in Kolkata Capgemini said its Indian operations have been experiencing 80 per cent yearly growth.

Capgemini currently employs 4,000 people at its Mumbai and Bangalore facilities in India and expects that to rise to 6,000 by the end of this year and 10,000 by the end of 2007.

Paul Hermelin, CEO of Capgemini said in a statement that India is core to the company's strategy.

"The opening of this new [Kolkata] centre is an important new step for the Group, which has now reached critical size in India. India’s talent and technology strengths have been acknowledged worldwide. We at Capgemini will continue to tap into this talent potential and Kolkata will be a key focus region," he said.

Capgemini has also been building up a strong offshore presence in Poland in Eastern Europe and in Guangzhou in China.

Earlier this week Dell announced plans to double its Indian headcount to 20,000 by 2009 while Unisys opened a new offshore software development facility in Shanghai in China.
