I'm not sure Apple really proves the previous readers point - Apple don't manufacture the iPod because there are other people who can do it better and cheaper. We live in a world that is constantly evolving and we either choose to evolve with it - by keeping our hard and soft skills up to date - or we find our employers have evolved as well!
What Apple excel at is sales, marketing, and product design. They have also evolved the iPod itself to maintain that lead - although sales are now much lower than the level they were at a year or more ago (which is pretty typical of any "must have" product I suspect).
