I have spoken to several EDS staff and the HP statement would be laughable if it were not such a serious situation for them. It's a fabrication to say it is about synergies allowing them to lose some staff; the redundancies are driven solely by the need for cost savings, not because of overlap of roles in the merged company.

The job losses include technical roles within delivery of services and the shortfall in resources is not being made up for by any current HP staff.

Jim Hanson is correct - HP/EDS have decided the total losses needed and are now trying to justify that number.
