BT helps cement construction sector merger...

Construction company Carillion has signed a £26.6m deal with BT to manage a converged IT and comms network over five years, following its merger with Mowlem.
The merger, which was inked in February last year, created an organisation with a combined order book of around £9bn and more than 50,000 employees.
The converged network is key to the integration of the two company's legacy systems across almost 1,000 sites.
Carillion IT director Steve Connor said the integration of Carillion and Mowlem was essential to the success of the acquisition and to the delivery of sustainable, profitable growth.
He said with the new managed services agreement, BT will be helping to join the two businesses together and implement a comprehensive review of its networks to see which sites are ready for a converged voice and data network.

Once the network is in place, one of the biggest benefits will be remote access so, for example, an architect on a construction site will be able to send plans from a remote device straight to head office, or a contractor on site will be able to download changes to the construction plans immediately.
