The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has agreed a £400m, seven-year printing contract with a group of companies including Accenture, EDS and Xerox.

David Smith, DWP commercial director, said the deal will give the department "a streamlined and coherent" answer to its current and future needs for print, publicity material and associated services, and improved value for money and greater efficiency.

The contract is due to be signed by - and to start on - 1 June this year with the transition and transformation of services planned to be phased over two years. There is also an option to extend the deal another three years.

Xerox said the contract will result in "substantial overall savings" for the department. It will provide a single service management infrastructure for all the DWP's core print needs and improve the quality and effectiveness of its document-related communication with the general public.

Xerox is the prime contractor of the iON group, which includes Accenture, CEVA Logistics, EDS, Remploy, The Stationery Office and TNT.
