IBM has announced plans to build two software development centres in Beijing, China and Pune, India.

Big Blue is launching the service-oriented architecture (SOA) centres to serve as the foundation to deliver SOA-based services around the globe.

You what…?

Bust through tech jargon with silicon.com's Cheat Sheets.

IBM will be using technology from recently acquired SOA software developer Webify Solutions to create and manage a portfolio of repeatable services for specific industries.

The centre in Pune will focus on all things insurance and will use resources from IBM labs in Hyderabad, India to support development of services, including home and car insurance quoting.

The Beijing centre will develop services for governments, including financial and case management, as well as services for banks including real-time, risk-based loan pricing.

IBM has trained more than 90,000 consultants to work with clients on SOA and expects the SOA market to reach $160bn by 2008. Approximately 500 IBM SOA employees will be working in each centre.

In other news, as previously reported on silicon.com, Dell has now opened its Polish manufacturing facility.
