LogicaCMG has won a £9m five-year contract to provide outsourced support and application management to the UK's Law Society.

The Law Society, an organisation for solicitors in England and Wales, is making a number of system and procedure changes to accommodate new regulations in the legal industry. It is also redesigning support and membership services for solicitors.

Judith Hetherington Smith, director of information and communications technology at the Law Society, said: "Our goal is to deliver efficient and cost effective, modern regulation and at the same time to provide responsive and relevant services to solicitors. Value for money is a key factor in all we do and the partnership will deliver savings and enhanced efficiency. We hope [it] will provide the IT support and innovation to help us meet our goals."

The outsourcing deal will see Logica manage the Law Society's IT infrastructure and provide application support on legacy IT systems from its Trinity Park offices in Birmingham. The law organisation is also planning to migrate back-end equipment to Logica's data centre in Wales.

Logica said it will spend the next 12 months working with Citrix to improve network speeds between Law Society offices in London and Redditch.

Steve Thorn, general manager of LogicaCMG's commercial business group, said: "LogicaCMG has a history of helping companies steer through complex change, and we look forward to extending our expertise to the Law Society."
