Capgemini has won a £30m five-year contract to support the IT infrastructure of pharmaceuticals company Lilly.

The deal covers 48 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa (Emea). Capgemini will manage Lilly's networks and servers, and support around 16,000 users of PCs and mobile devices in the region.

Lilly's Emea head of infrastructure services Maria Rey said the deal with Capgemini, which starts this month, will help the pharmaceuticals giant transform its delivery model.

Rey said in a statement: "This commitment was demonstrated throughout the tendering process and in Capgemini's robust proposals for governance in our complex, demanding and fast-moving multinational environment."

And Lilly's Emea manager of infrastructure operations, Rob Lamb, said an 'innovation board' staffed by Lilly and Capgemini personnel will be established to ensure both parties share the rewards from it.

He said in a statement: "I am confident that the robust governance will ensure a mutually profitable relationship under which we are both motivated to achieve success."
