Mercer Human Resource Consulting is spending $58m on a new IT procurement and helpdesk support system for its workers in the UK and the US.
Under the five-year contract, IBM will use its OrderNow procurement software to build an online catalogue which Mercer employees can use to order IT products such as laptops, servers and software, with the aim of reducing the number of one-off orders.
IBM will also use the software to build a web portal to allow Mercer's 10,500 UK and US employees to solve problems with PCs and laptops.
Linda Ison, chief information officer at Mercer, said the deal with IBM would give the human resources company flexible IT services that were consistent in different countries.
She said in a statement: "This initiative builds on the successful track record of our internal support teams as well as consolidation efforts of the past several years."
